A growing number of fraudulent, increasingly aggressive and sophisticated websites masquerading as www.easd18.org and similar are offering registration, hotel bookings and other services for the forthcoming Annual Meeting of EASD Congress. Services booked through these websites may lead to additional costs for end-users.
We strongly recommend that all congress-related services be booked through the official congress websites only (www.easd.org or www.easd-industry.com) to ensure quality, best prices and protection of your personal data as required by current data protection regulators.
Tips to help you recognize a fraudulent website:
An OFFICIAL conference website should:
Display a functioning contact telephone number
Feature an official website Imprint stating who is responsible for the website
Feature the official congress logo – this point is unfortunately not foolproof as some fraudulent sites may use the official logo without permission
Offer individuals booking a hotel room the option to provide a credit card as guarantee only, and final payment is possible onsite. Fraudulent websites will generally demand payment up front
Generally use a housing agent based in the same region as the congress takes place and not work through agents based on completely different continents
Which sites to watch out for!
